Key Responsibilities

Function/Duties of Position

Duties of the Position

 

Infection Control/Safety

  • Universal precautions
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Sterilization procedures
  • MSDS expectations

Clinical

  • Observation and direct measurement
  • Data collection (orthostatic vitals)
  • Medication administration (oral, SC, IM, ID, rectal, vaginal, topical)
  • CLIA waived testing
  • Age specific competency
  • Minor procedure assistance
  • Wound care, suture/staple removal
  • Comprehension of scope

Phlebotomy/Point of Care/Diagnostic testing

  • Blood draws (venous, capillary)
  • Point of care competency for CLIA waived tests
  • Other diagnostic tests (i.e. ECG, PFT)

Pharmacology

  • Basic drug calculations and metric conversions
  • Safe preparation and administration
  • Identify and define drug categories
  • Legal prescription requirements based on drug schedules and classes
  • Knowledge of DEA regulations
  • Familiarity with PDR
  • Know common drugs and their classifications/side effects

 

Practice-Specific Duties

  • Coordination and Scheduling of care
  • Casting/Splinting
  • Scheduling patient appointments and reminder calls
  • Schedules labs, diagnostics, stretchers, wheelchairs and interpreters when necessary and accommodates other special needs when necessary
  • Mails information packets
  • Contacts primary care physicians or their designees to obtain authorizations for care as required
  • Takes accurate messages from patients regarding procedure scheduling and post-op care.  Delivers such information promptly to the appropriate providers, advice nurse, or their designees
  • Prior authorization of medication/prescribed medical equipment
  • Initiate clinic review
  • The week following each clinic:  Track as needed lab values on clinic chart flow sheet, check EPIC Care for patient follow up appointments and arrange patient care follow up as indicated
  • Track lab/diagnostic results completed outside facilities and entered into EPIC Care for RN and Provider review
  • Assist physicians in clinic with "out of book" patients as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Current BLS certification at hire
  • Oregon LPN license at hire
