Department Overview

The Comprehensive Pain Center (CPC) team includes physicians, psychologists, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, chiropractors, acupuncturists, rolfers, massage therapists, and a naturopath who deliver truly comprehensive care and offer more training opportunities for fellows and residents. Patients benefit from both traditional (e.g., blocks, pumps, stimulators) and non-traditional (e.g., biofeedback and acupuncture) pain management techniques. The department is also nationally recognized in pediatric pain management.

 

The acupuncturist will work within a multiprofessional team consisting of physicians, advanced practice providers, and psychologists to provide acupuncture for chronic and acute pain patients seen in the Comprehensive Pain Center. The CPC is an established practice and will provide a steady stream of referrals, but the practitioner must be independent and motivated to expand their practice.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Examine and assess patient's condition to best determine acupuncture treatment for their condition.  Performs and documents initial health history; performs and documents all sessions performed according to established guidelines; practice appropriate acupuncture techniques; communicates and explains procedures appropriate to client need and preferences.
  • Must maintain a general knowledge of acunpunture coding requirements.  Complete notes and maintain accurate documentation of treatment after each visit.  Maintain HIPPA compliance.
  • Present lectures on current literature regarding therapeutic benefits of acupuncture benefits and pain management to CPC staff and clininal providers.  
  • Develops educational material for CPC staff and patients.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director.

Required Qualifications

  • Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Acupuncturist with the State of Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Compassionate individual who enjoys working in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task, good communication skills and ability to relate well with patients who are suffering from pain, both acute and chronic.     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pain management preferred.

Additional Details

This position will be located in the Center for Health and Healing, in a shared work space area that will require occasional ability to work with some interruptions and noise.
