An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced researcher to join Dr. Julia Maxson’s laboratory as a Senior Research Assistant serving in a lab manager role at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR.
The primary goal of the Maxson Laboratory is to understand how genomic changes manifest to promote leukemia formation and progression. We are particularly interested in using new tools to interrogate these changes and in developing therapeutic strategies to shut down oncogenic programs. This is an enthusiastic, supportive, and hard-working team.
We are looking to hire a Senior Research Assistant working as a lab manager to support our ongoing projects investigating myeloid leukemias. The ideal candidate would be excited about maintaining systems for laboratory organization/management as well as supporting projects in the lab. Job duties will involve lab organization, ordering, maintaining supply and reagent stocks as well as overseeing our colony of transgenic mice. Additional responsibilities will include basic cloning, plasmid preparation and cell culture. Opportunities will be available for advanced skill development in epigenetic or single cell methodologies for motivated individuals.
Applicants will need to possess strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Some weekend work is required. Bachelor’s degree and laboratory experience in molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, cancer biology or a related field is preferred. Prior experience with mouse studies would be a plus. Salary will be commensurate with experience. 2. Laboratory organization and management. Maintenance of laboratory organizational systems. Communication with vendors and ordering of chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies. Prepare chemical solutions and aliquot reagents. Operate a variety of instruments and scientific equipment, including quality control and maintenance. Assist with regulatory requirements and protocol renewal. Contribute to mouse colony management or oversight.
3. Perform experiments for projects on leukemia biology and therapeutic development. Collect, record, organize, and verify the accuracy of data; keep detailed and accurate laboratory records. May assist with preparation of figures, tables and reports for publications and grants. Perform preliminary interpretation of results to determine whether they are consistent with experimental goals.
4. Read literature applicable to research areas as required and actively participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions. May be asked to present data to group in a seminar format, and/or at scientific meetings.
