Department Overview

The Academic Success Center provides academic support to students across schools and programs at OHSU, primarily through academic coaching, writing support, and content tutoring. 

 

The Academic Success Center is currently especially interested in applicants who could tutor for the following subject areas:

  • Anatomy
  • Biostatistics and Epidemiology (emphasis on software and coding used for these courses)
  • Physiology and Pathophysiology
  • Pharmacotherapeutics, Physics (radiation therapy track)
  • Basic sciences and general math (for undergrads)

Candidate must be an OHSU student.

 

We are also hoping to hire tutors to support students with program specific board/ certification/ licensure exam preparation. Students with specialization in areas other than those listed here are welcome to apply. Please specify the area(s) you are intersted in tutoring.

 

Pay: $20.00 per hour 

Function/Duties of Position

  • With supervision, primarily provides academic support to other students through tutoring in one-to-one or small group settings.
  • Maintains records related to tutoring accurately and with confidentiality.
  • Communicates effectively with faculty in the Academic Success Center to support the academic success of student clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in an OHSU Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours)
  • Minimum grade of B earned in course for which they will tutor
  • Instructor approval
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to learn new technologies
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a teacher, tutor, educational aid, or similar

Additional Details

  • Must be able to work between 2 and 10 hours per week during academic terms
  • Schedule may include evening or weekend hours
  • Tutoring can take place online or in-person
