Department Overview

The Department of Psychiatry, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) at OHSU has an outstanding opportunity for a creative, energetic Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or Pediatrically Trained Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to treat, teach, and advance their academic interests in our 22-bed CAP Psychiatric Unit at the Unity Center for Behavioral Health. 


The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Department of Psychiatry provides excellent clinical treatment, leads innovative research, and offers hands-on training for the next generation of Behavioral Health Providers. The Unity Center for Behavioral Health is a 24-hour behavioral and mental health services center located in the greater Portland metropolitan area in collaboration between three major health systems. We provide immediate psychiatric care and a path to stabilization and recovery for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. At Unity Center, we believe in a holistic approach to recovery that encompasses mind, body, spirit, culture, and community. Unity Center offers inpatient mental health treatment to adults as well as children and adolescents ages 9 to 17. The Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) is an emergency department for adults aged 18 and older.

Function/Duties of Position

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.


As part of your duties at Unity Center, Physicians are expected to take regular nightly pager call duties at Unity Center, in addition to covering weekend calls, as assigned, with other faculty on weekends and holidays, (Physicians up to 10 weekends, NP up to 8 weekends a year). You may work more weekends if you are interested. You are paid at an additional per diem rate in addition to your base pay for all weekend or holiday call. 


The incumbent will be allowed approximately 0.1 FTE time to pursue academic interests of their choosing, including clinical program development, curriculum development, or scholarship, typically one full day every two weeks.


The hospital also serves as a major training site for child psychiatrists, NP students, Physician assistants and medical students.  As an academic setting the incumbent will participate in our training mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Board Eligible or Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or PMHNPs with three years’ experience in pediatric acute psychiatric settings preferred. 
  • A strong commitment to team-based health care
  • A strong commitment to trauma-informed practices
  • Academic rank begins at the level of Assistant Professor (Physicians) or Instructor (NPs) and may be higher depending upon credentials.  
  • All applicants must be licensed or able to obtain a license as a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the state of Oregon.
