Department Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to support the academic, technical, and operational simulated learning needs of faculty and students in the Simulation & Clinical Learning Center (SCLC) on the La Grande Campus.

 

The Academic Simulation Associate will be responsible for evaluating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and updating/upgrading all A/V equipment video-conferencing supports, computer software programs, and low-to-high-fidelity manikins, equipment, and supplies, in coordination with the Simulation Coordinator, Campus Associate Dean, and OHSU/EOU ITG staff. The Academic Simulation Associate collaborates with OHSU simulation and statewide specialists, faculty, and inter-professional groups to support simulation activities using evidence-based practice standards, course outcomes and curriculum benchmarks.

 

In addition, this position provides administrative support services to the OHSU SON La Grande campus outlined under Key Responsibilities related to student worker supports, designated fiscal/schedule responsibilities, building/equipment repairs, electronic calendaring. This position is also responsible for facilitating technical support for the campus including computer and equipment inventory; providing orientation and training for media equipment, printing equipment, software applications; copier and printers; video conferencing support. During non-academic months additional administrative duties may be assigned as needed.

Function/Duties of Position

Simulation Technician: (9 months - Academic Year)

  • Collaborate with the Simulation Coordinator, Specialists, Leadership, and inter-professional groups to:  Assist in the design, planning

Public Relations

  • Meets and greet college administrators, faculty and students daily and maintains a cordial and welcoming environment.
  • Responds daily to phone calls and email from the public, host campus and OHSU community pertaining to SCLC and campus responding with a professional level of proficiency and integrity.
  • Responds daily to priority request, re-adjusts workload as needed and keeps the SCLC faculty and/or manager appropriately informed.
  • Participated in committee meetings, sets agendas, assists with meeting arrangements, and takes minutes for the campus and SCLC as assigned.
  • Prepared and composes correspondence, reports memos, or other program documents for SCLS routinely.
  • Provides daily general administrative support to the SCLC and the SON

Service Excellence Responsibilities

  • Provides back-up as need to support the work of the La Grande SCLC in order to meet all of the learner, faculty, and team needs.
  • Fulfill responsibility to the organization through performance that promotes the service excellence philosophy.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Education 

  • Four years of general office or secretarial experience; OR
  • An Associate’s degree or certificate in office occupations or office technology and two years of general office or secretarial experience; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree and two years of general office or secretarial experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience. 

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong educational program development and program delivery.
  • Background in computer use, set-up, trouble shooting, and maintenance.
  • Experience with setting up simulation and experience setting up A/V equipment a must.
  • Understanding of healthcare terminology ideal for this candidate.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse groups.
  • Recent (past two years) experience and competency in MS Suite applications, e.g. Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Typing 40+ wpm; High level of organization and prioritization skills required to complete work in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling;
  • Highly developed and experienced interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • This position is team-oriented working cooperatively with academic, unclassified management, and classified personnel on a daily basis.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced experience with MS productivity tools such as PowerPoint/Word
  • Experience with web-based learning applications (e.g. Sakai, online calendar, newsletter tools and event registration)
  • High level of ability to organize and prioritize multiple demands and deadlines.
  • High level development in independent thinking and decision-making while working as a team player.
  • Highly developed ability to work cooperatively in an academic environment with faculty, staff and students.
  • Understanding of simulation technology.

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses 

  • CHSOS

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Certified Simulation Operation Specialist – (CSOS)
  • BA of BS Computer science technology, education, business management, communications, nursing or healthcare related including natural sciences such as biology and chemistry.

Experience

  • Prior experience working with faculty and programs within a higher education environment.
  • Experience also preferred in working with students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Excellent skills and strong experience with digital audio-visual editing (Adobe Premiere), Filemaker Pro, Access, Captivate, Learning Management Systems, Windows Operating Systems.
  • Experience in moulage techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, health-related experience and education experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, health-related experience and educational experience.

Additional Details

  • Shift hours will vary according to term, learner needs, and workload.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds – through moving simulation equipment such as high fidelity manikins.
