The Health Unit Coordinator is part of the health care team and utilizes their knowledge and expertise to support nursing area/unit operations throughout OHSU. The Health Unit Coordinator's primary responsibility is to enhance the patient experience, both by facilitating communication with healthcare providers and by addressing patient needs as he/she is able. The Health Unit Coordinator also maintains an accurate and current profile of patients and health care team members in multiple locations: census boards, computers, call lists and charts. The Health Unit Coordinator acts as a communications specialist, providing secretarial and reception skills, computer entry services, and organizational and problem solving expertise. The Float Pool HUC works in all nursing units within the Patient Care Services Division. This includes adult and pediatric units, acute care, and critical care.
Support patient and family centered care across the continuum through service coordination.
Prioritize unit secretary responsibilities and seek consultation when indicated. Perform area specific skills and follow established protocols.
Obtain follow up appointments for discharging patients as requested.

Demonstrate fiscal accountability and the effective use of resources
Assume responsibility for professional / job related development, knowledge of advances in technology, use of new equipment and appropriate application of hospital systems. Maintain knowledge base essential to the role of Health Unit Coordinator.
Demonstrate performance consistent with Departmental, Divisional and Organizational expectations and core competency
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of clerical and/or related health care experience or a combination of experience and training
