The Equipment Pool Technician performs routine work in the decontamination, assembly, testing, and distribution of medical equipment, supplies, and instruments in a medical facility. It is distinguished from the higher levels by the absence of responsibility for performing advanced and complicated sterilization, assembly and testing of medical equipment, supplies and instruments.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Pickup used equipment from OHSU clinics, patient care areas, and other
    locations as designated.
  • Use knowledge of sterilization and infection control principles to properly
    decontaminate instrumentation and equipment.
  • Appropriately operate equipment including, but not limited to, cart washers,
    decontaminators, computers, ultrasonic, scanners, telephones, and
    photocopiers.
  • Performs routine instrument and equipment quality checks.
  • Dispense equipment & instrumentation, Restocking of Carts, Case Cart
  • Picking, assists with Operating Room Turnover, put away (instruments,
    supplies, and equipment). Maintains Patient & Customer Focus.
  • Assists with in servicing and orientation of staff, both new and those in
    assignment rotation.
  • Maintain records, reports, and patient charges according to established
    procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year experience providing customer service to a high volume customer base
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mt. Hood Community College
    • Sterile Processing class
  • 2 years job experience in a hospital, clinic, or medical laboratory with exposure to decontamination and cleaning processes OR 2 year’s materials handling experience including inventory and stocking of perishable supplies

Additional Details

Salary Range: $20.77 - $27.70 per hour

  • Rotate weekends, work various shifts, work with detergents, enzymes, germicide, and other related chemicals.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately.
  • Ability to operate computers and job related equipment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
