Department Overview

The nurse in this position will provide comprehensive care to pediatric hematology/oncology patients in an ambulatory setting, including administration of chemotherapy, blood products and supportive care.

 

The nurse will need to be or become certified to administer chemotherapy through the Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses (APHON) curriculum. The RN also will provide infusion therapy for specialty service patients such as gastroenterology and nephrology. In addition, the nurse will be assigned to coordinate care for two to three Hematology Oncology providers' patient populations.

 

The OHSU registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The RNs care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics and meets the standards/expectations of the OHSU Nursing Professional Practice Model. In that model, the RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transfer.

Function/Duties of Position

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
  • BSN preferred
    • Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association 
  • Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year Hematology/Oncology/BMT Experience or completion of a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT Internship program
  • APHON/ONS Chemotherapy Certification

  • Length of Orientation  
    • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 2-12 weeks.
