Function/Duties of Position

We are seeking an ambitious, self-driven, and highly organized team player to join our dynamic laboratory as a Research Assistant 2. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and ability to follow complex protocols with relative independence. They will provide primary scientific support for a project aimed at testing novel anti-cancer compounds in cell models of various cancers. This role involves conducting experiments involving aseptic cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, molecular biology and molecular cloning, protein biochemistry, and murine models as well as mouse work. You will be responsible for performing data analysis using Excel, GraphPad Prism, and Adobe Illustrator, as well as preparing presentations using PowerPoint. The Research Assistant 2 will collaborate with the research team to design and execute experiments, maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication, and participate in lab meetings, contributing to discussions on research progress and planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with Biological/Biochemical Sciences Major OR Associates degree AND 3 year of  relevant experience OR 4 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Molecular Biology - RNA/DNA Extraction.
  • General proficiency with Microsoft suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word).
  • Team player - Interacts positively and productively.
  • Willingness to learn new methods and concepts and implement as recommended.
  • High level of attention to detail required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Performs procedures consistently, completely, in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain detailed experimental records, and cataloging of samples, data entry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree with advanced level courses in biological sciences, biochemistry or molecular biology, preferably with laboratory component.
  • 0 to 3 years experience.
  • Proficiency in aseptic cell culture techniques.
  • Experience with DNA/RNA extraction and protein biochemistry.
  • Competence in data analysis using Excel and GraphPad Prism.
  • Previous undergraduate research experience in a laboratory setting is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with murine models is a plus.
