Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions. 

Function/Duties of Position

The Data Center Support Team provides 24x7 oversight, support, monitoring, and emergency response for OHSU's primary Data Center (DCW) and Business Continuinty Data Center (DCB). Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and operating power, cooling, and fire suppression systems, and responding to emergencies (this includes an on-call rotation)
  • Vendor management for preventative maintenance and emergency response of critical infrastructure systems.
  • Racking and cabling server, storage, and network hardware
  • Replacing RMA components
  • Providing on-site remote assistance for server, storage, and network teams
  • Vendor escort

This position will be part of the Information Technology Group (ITG) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) which provides and supports technology and information services that enable OHSU to be a national leader in health and science innovation. Required Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or related field AND three years of progressively responsible IT related experience leading to proven proficiency and
subject matter expertise in the areas outlined within the class specification; OR

 

Equivalent alternative educational experience that includes approved coursework,
professional certification as outlined below, vendor training, AND seven years of
documented professional experience leading to proven proficiency and subject matter expertise in the areas outline within the class specification; OR

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience: 

  • 5 years of experience in the Information Technology field
  • 2 years of experience working in a Data Center environment

Job Related Knowledge Skills and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated understanding of enterprise infrastructure, including knowledge of platform technologies, enterprise hardware, and hardware lifecycle
  • Proven background in project and team leadership.
  • Excellent knowledge of and demonstrated success in project management concepts, tools, including cost/benefit analysis and resource management.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrate core competencies as established for this position.

Additional Details

This position requires working on-site in a Data Center environment.  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required at times and may include: hearing protection and arc flash protection.

 

This position requires participation in an on-call rotation.  When on-call, employees are required to be available by telephone 24x7, and able to physically return to the Data Center in order to carry out job duties.
