Staff Scientist will be primarily responsible for conducting basic and clinical research at the OHSU Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy (CECGT). The employee possesses an exceptional research skills and expertise in the field of developmental biology, gamete and preimplantation development and genetics.

 

The employee will conduct research on mouse, nonhuman primate and human gametes, embryos and pluripotent stem cells. The responsibilities include planning, developing and implementing research projects  consistent with CECGT research portfolio; leading, training and supervising research teams; managing research and clinical projects in embryology; establish and maintain novel techniques and maintain equipment.

 

This position will also develop new research programs on gamete, embryo and embryonic stem cells; manage experimental worksheets and databases and storage of gametes and embryos; analyze research data, write and publish manuscripts, progress-reports and present  research accomplishments at conferences and assist with writing grant proposals.

 

The employee is responsible for managing day-to-day embryology core operations such as: training and directing postdocs, students, trainees  and research staff. Assist in planning experiments and develop new techniques and assays in the laboratory which require flexibility, judgement, and unique experience in the field of embryology. This position is responsible for developing detailed protocols and SOPs.

• PhD degree in relevant field and 7+ years of relevant post-doctoral work experience.
• 7 years relevant research experience in a laboratory setting with background in embryology, reproductive/ molecular/ cellular biology, animal physiology, or endocrinology research.
• Independent proficiency in embryology and cell culture techniques listed above.
• Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats;
• Ability to work both independently and in a small group setting, and one-on-one with collaborators and clients in a positive and producive manner
• Work efficiently and skillfully with a variety of diverse staff and collaborators;
• Experience with relevant software
• Demonstrated independence and competence to perform data management and analysis of research finding, including use of spreadsheets, graphics and statistical program
• Ability to prioritize work demands, and coordinate research protocols with other staff
• Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily perform job duties
• Laboratory management and quality control skills.
• High level of self-motivation and integrity

• PhD in Developmental Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, with training in clinical IVF
• Research and clinical expertise  in human IVF, aneuploidy assessments, human gamete and embryo micromanipulations
