Department Overview

The Registered Nurse will be working part time at the HMC 8th Ave. Medical Plaza Building.   The RN is a member of a multi-disciplinary team and has the primary responsibility for and provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients. This includes representing the practice both in person and on the telephone, other OHSU departments, and non-OHSU facilities.  The Registered Nurse assesses patient and family needs, develops a plan of care, implements, and evaluates the care delivered.  The Registered Nurse is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.

Function/Duties of Position

$52.11- $86.81 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience.

 

 

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RNs care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [O'Rourke Model of the Professional Role]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RNs engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork.

 

 

Department Specific Qualifications/Requirements (competencies, equipment, certifications, etc.):

  • 2 years’ experience in labor and delivery
  • 2 years’ experience in fetal monitoring
  • 1 year phone triage experience
  • 1 year phlebotomy experience
  • Limited Third Trimester OB Ultrasound Certification or intent to obtain Certification within six months of hire.
  • NCC Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or intent to obtain certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Washington RN license, or obtaining WA RN license within first 90 days of employment
  • Ability to maintain a smooth operation of the entire practice, using problem-solving and decision-making combined with sound clinical judgments.
  • Assists provider with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and treatments as needed in the clinic.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations.  Understands the procedures for medical emergencies, as well as other disaster situations.

Required Qualifications

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Internal ONA applicants: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • BLS must not expire during orientation
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN Nursing degree
  • Limited 3rd Trimester OB Ultrasound Certification
  • NCC Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification
  • Previous charge nurse or lead nurse position
  • 5 years’ experience working in an Antenatal Testing Unit

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
