Department Overview

The OHSU Department of Psychiatry, part of the OHSU Brain Institute, focuses on providing excellent clinical treatment to our patients, leading innovative research, and offering hands-on training for the next generation of psychiatrists. Function/Duties of Position

The duties of this position include: This position works within a professional team of behavioral health consultants and learners to provide outstanding behavioral health care to adult patients at OHSU. The team members include: Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Professional Practice Leader/Specialty Practice Leader, Medical Students, Psychiatric Residents and Consult/Liaison Fellows. 

  

In general, the Consult/Liaison Services provided are:

 

  • Provide consults on primary psychiatric patients and for patients with a psychiatric co-morbidity on medical and surgical units
  • Provide services for the Emergency Department
  • Focus on psychiatric and behavioral issues that are present during hospital admission
  • Focus care for patients who either meet or do not meet admission criteria to psychiatric hospitals (Unity, Cedar Hills, Providence, etc)
  • Assess work collaboratively with the ED or Unit provider and medical team on an appropriate plan of care
  • Provide guidance to primary teams and testimony in civil commitment proceedings, when appropriate
  • Provide psychiatric medication management, where appropriate
  • Teach medical students, residents and fellows in the model of care

Required Qualifications

  • Board certification in Psychiatry
  • Candidate should have training and/or experience in psychosomatic medicine.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical skills in patient service and demonstrate interest in the teaching and supervision of medical students and residents.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional board certification in consult/liaison medicine is preferred.
