Annually salary ranges are as follows:
Assistant Professor: $122,200 - $142,016
Associate Professor: $146,277 -$170,613
The Group Practice Leader (GPL) manages and provides oversight to the clinical education and performance of dental students in an integrated vertical group practice model. They facilitate the progress of a dental student from DS1-DS4 in the delivery of direct patient care; supervise the delivery of comprehensive patient care and provide oversight of patient treatment plans for students within the Group Practice. The GPL works with the Office of Academic Systems (OAS) in the oversight, assessment and documentation of student progress as measured against student learning objectives (SLOs) and clinical skills assessments (CSAs) and with the Office of Clinical Systems (OCS) in the assessment, documentation, and oversight of the delivery of timely and quality patient care consistent with School of Dentistry Clinic's policies and procedures. The GPL, as an OHSU School of Dentistry faculty, provides services in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
The duties of this position include:
Duties related to Dental Students within the Group Practice:
- Supervise the provision of direct patient care
- Manage and mentor student learning around patient rights, HIPPA, patient relations, patient communication and prevention and resolution of patient grievances
- Work with students within the group to develop comprehensive treatment plans, monitor the progress of each case, ensure that the appropriate treatment sequence is followed, and confirm that the outcomes are of an acceptable standard
- Guide and mentor student collaboration with dental specialties, dental laboratory and technicians, and others in the planning and delivery of direct patient care
- Plan treatment with the student for comprehensive, complex interdisciplinary cases
- Provide direct patient care when necessary
- Provide oversight of all patient treatment plans
- Ensure timely and quality patient care delivery consistent with SOD Clinic policies and procedures.
- Guide, facilitate, expedite, monitor and track dental student progress and performance in the integrated vertical group practice model
- Provide logistical and administrative support to the student as they navigate clinical operations and deliver of direct patient care
- Monitor student progress and provide counseling regarding: attendance, productivity, infection control, care delivery, case management, financial management, record documentation, professionalism and volume and mix of cases
- Meet individually with each student to conduct timely Student Performance Reviews (SPRs).
- Administer clinical skills assessments (CSAs)
- Assign, co-assign and reassign patients to students based on student need, student expertise and student level of performance to ensure adequate experiences in all disciplines.
- Promote teamwork among DS1-DS4s
- Serve as liaison and advocate for the student with the OAS and OCS
- Disseminate timely and pertinent communication to students via email, digital information platforms, axiUm messages, presentations and written reports
- Implement corrective or improvement measures as recommended by the SOD Student Performance Committee
Duties related to Patients within the Group Practice:
- Serve as liaison and advocate for the patient to the OCS
- Serve as mediator for patient concerns brought by patient/families or staff related to patient care delivered within the Group Practice
- Participate in the provision of written feedback to patients regarding in-complete, in-progress or discontinued care within the SOD [patient care discontinued while in progress (DIP), patient care discontinued (D), patient care discontinued while in progress and patient care discontinued (DIP & D), Discontinue in Radiographic Findings (DUR) and patient care Complete (C)]
Duties related to Group Practice Administration:
- Administer the integrated vertical group practice model
- Ensure implementation of SOD policies within the group
- Assign, co-assign, and re-assign patient care among students to facilitate timely and comprehensive care and to maximize quantity and quality of clinical care experiences
- Re-assign patient care upon graduation of a dental student to a matriculating student
- Participate in and disseminate data from post-treatment reviews, chart audits, and axiUm reports used in the evaluation of student performance, clinical efficiency, patient safety and compliance to SOD Clinic policies and procedures
- Oversee management of unusual occurrences and unusual occurrence reporting within the group.
- Organize and conduct Group Huddles per term
- Meet and report regularly for Group Practice Leaders huddle and periodically with the OAS
- Meet with clinic staff, clinic management, Group Practice Coordinator, and faculty as needed to coordinate student progress and patient care delivery
- Prepare and disseminate timely and pertinent communication to OAS and OCS around student performance as requested
- Compose letters of recommendation or commendation for students applying to advanced education programs and/or residencies
- Work in cooperation with OCS to support the financial objectives of the SOD and to develop quality improvement assessment metrics
- Consult and collaborate with SOD Leadership as needed on significant issues
Duties related to Participation in Didactic Clinical Courses and SOD Committees:
- Serve as director/co-director for DMD Courses DEN 754/756
- Serve as instructor in DMD Courses DEN730/740
- Participate as a non-voting member of the Student Performance Committee, unless appointed as a voting member
- Accept other tasks as assigned
