Department Overview

The unit's dual mission is primarily focused towards providing robust nursing services for inpatient acute care epilepsy diagnostic monitoring (EMU) and non-acute care inpatient/outpatient clinical translational research (CTRC) services.  In addition 10D also serves as an overflow unit for various hospital acute care patients.  

 

We take pride in providing outstanding participant & patient/family centered care in a collegial dual mission ambulatory and acute care setting where attention to detail, quality provision of care, and patient experience is our expertise and focus

 

Patient population will include but is not limited to: 

  • Epilepsy patients:  Nursing care for patients for patients with seizure disorders admitted for epilepsy monitoring and surgical diagnostic intervention. Care is based on the EMU NPEOC.  
  • Other acute care patients: Nursing care for patients medical and surgical adult patients, age 18 and older. Care is based on the Inpatient Adult Acute Care NPEOC.
  • Research Participants: Nursing care for volunteers participating in research protocols based on specific protocol requirements. All activities are carried out in accordance with established research protocols, the CTRC Nurse Practice Expectations of Care (NPEOC) for pediatrics and adults, and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and OHSU procedural requirements. Pediatrics are only seen in the outpatient/ambulatory environment 

Majority of patient care on night shift is EMU and other acute care patients.  The inpatient environment comprises 8 inpatient beds. The research ambulatory/outpatient environment comprises 4 infusion chairs and 5 clinic exam rooms. 
 
Nurses on 10D are oriented first in the acute care setting followed by orientation into the research setting.  

Function/Duties of Position

$52.11- $86.81 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience.

Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements for all Nurses:

  • BSN or ADN from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date
    • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire 
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License 
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • BLS must not expire during orientation  
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation

Department Specific Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of current nursing experience
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) required within 6 months of hire
  • Nuclear Medicine Medication Administration and Bio-Hazardous Waste Class required within 6 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internal applicants: Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program
  • National certification in the specialty area is desired (recommended).
    • Certified Clinical Research Professionals (CCRP) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP)
    • Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN)
    • Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification

Additional Details

Experienced Nurse (Fellowship or Specialty Fellowship) with more than 1 year of experience:

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 2-12 weeks.
