Department Overview

The Division of Arthritis & Rheumatic Diseases (ARD) provides quality specialty consultative and continuing care services to patients with a variety of rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions, while simultaneously training future rheumatologists to become experts in their field. 

Function/Duties of Position

ARD nurses have responsibility for patient assessment, triage, patient & family education, review of patient appointments, as well as other patient centered tasks. 

  • Navigate information technology associated with the position, including Telecommuting software, copier, multi-line phones, right fax and following policies and procedures.
  • Record, track and assign duties and processes to ensure appropriate billing and revenue generation, when applicable.
  • Facilitate access to OHSU facilities and clinics.
  • Demonstrate electronic health record skill integration: Telephone, in-basket and MyChart triage.
  • Test results management and follow-up triage.
  • Provide patient education using health literacy principles.
  • Facilitate connections to community resources.
  • Communicate with all OHSU care teams to ensure patient care outcomes are met. Patient Populations: Adults over age 18, patients with autoimmune disease who have multisystem diseases impacting quality of life and patient functioning
  • Medications used require regular safety lab monitoring, including oral, injection, and IV medications

Conditions we commonly see include but are not limited to lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, myositis, sarcoidosis, scleroderma, Sjogrens syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease related arthritis, osteoporosis, gout, pseudogout, and vasculitis.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
    • Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools.
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or the Military Training Network

  • BSN preferred
