Department Overview

The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, known as one of the pioneers in personalized cancer medicine, is an international leader in research and cancer treatment. Driven by its mission to end cancer as we know it, the institute is building upon its expertise in targeted treatments to advance the early detection of cancer when the disease is most treatable.

Function/Duties of Position

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

 

It is anticipated the position will be made up of the following components: Clinical and In-Patient Service at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Beaverton. Teaching and Research/Academic pursuits may occur.

 

  • Support of the mission, goals and objectives of OHSU, The Knight Cancer Institute, The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology which includes the Community Hematology Oncology (CHO) Section and the School of Medicine.
  • Care of patients with hematologic and oncologic disease at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Beaverton location, and possibly other practice locations as needed.
  • Participate with other Division and CHO staff and provider teams as needed.
  • Participate in administrative committees and councils of OHSU, Legacy, and other community partners as approved by the Division Head and Section Chief.
  • Engage in public service through consultative activities with non-university groups with the knowledge and consent of the Division Head and Section Chief.
  • Participate, as desired, in the education of medical students and house staff.
  • Assure that every patient has an opportunity to be considered for a clinical trial.

Required Qualifications

Education & experience:

  • MD, MD/PhD, DO, MBBS, MBBCh

 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time;
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems;
  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Medical oncologist/hematologist licensed to practice medicine in Oregon; Board certified/board eligible in medical oncology/hematology with a desire to practice in a community-based clinical environment as part of an academic health care system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Physician leadership experience demonstrates the background, focus, and drive to excel, as well as the ability to provide excellent clinical care to cancer patients in the community setting.
