Department Overview

To be considered for this position, please submit the following documents:

  • Your cover letter that includes:
    • How you meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
    • How you meet any of the preferred qualifications for this position.
    • A general statement describing your teaching and research interests, and how they match with OHSU.
  • A statement that addresses your understanding, contributions, and aspirations regarding Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, and how you would support OHSU’s diverse students and surrounding community populations. This statement should also address your perspective on learning about and building trauma-informed relationships with faculty, staff, and students. What would help you feel that you belong and are supported?

OHSU has three missions: healing, teaching, and discovery. In the School of Nursing, these focus to optimize health, prepare nurse leaders, and transform health care. Infusing these is a fourth: to become a trauma-informed and truly anti-racist institution. The School of Nursing has made the same commitment. We, along with all of OHSU, are striving to become a place where every member can be safe, be at their best, and do their best work. With support from OHSU leadership and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion and using a trauma-informed approach, we are transforming our culture, policies, admissions, hiring, and more.

SON faculty members who have advanced practice specialization (nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, clinical nurse specialist or nurse anesthetist) may function in all of the missions of the School. Scholarly teaching is an expectation for all. Clinical teaching of other OHSU advanced practice students may be required. The faculty member must be nationally certified by the AMCB, nationally certified by the appropriate certifying body for certification outside of nurse-midwifery, and licensed by the state of Oregon. The faculty member will provide services as determined by the Midwifery Clinical Director or School of Nursing Senior Associate Dean for Practice in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Faculty members with a clinical FTE are also expected to participate in service appropriate to rank and FTE. The advanced practice faculty member is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU and SON policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.

If practice is a part of the FTE assignment, the faculty member must be credentialed and privileged as a member of the OHSU Professional Staff and may be required to be credentialed and privileged as a member of Hillsboro Medical Center Medical Staff if working at Hillsboro Medical Center, in accordance with the specialty bylaws. The faculty member will provide clinical services at Hillsboro Medical Center, an OHSU Partner community hospital, as determined by the Clinical Director of Nurse-Midwifery in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
