The OHSU Department of Surgery is comprised of nine integrated yet independent surgery divisions: Abdominal Organ Transplantation, Bariatric, Cardiothoracic, Gastrointestinal and General, Pediatric, Plastic and Reconstructive, Oncology, Trauma and Acute Care and Vascular Surgery. Our department is built on a culture of community and a history of innovative and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our faculty are dedicated to excellence in education, research, scholarship and clinical practice. We also house one of the largest general surgery residency programs in the country and offer surgery fellowships in all of our disciplines. OHSU as a teaching hospital is fully supported by each of our faculty and staff. In your role you will serve as the Director of Community Engagement and Education for the Department of Surgery. As a member of the Department of Surgery you will report to the Department Chair. You will also have a reporting line to the Provost Office and the Vice President of Health Equity.

1. Administration/Service. Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees. Department committees include:
2. Education. OHSU is a teaching facility, and you will be expected to teach students and residents in the research setting as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year. You will also be expected to participate in the following ways:
3. Research. There are resources available for start-up research and on-going support via established processes and opportunities. Faculty interested in doing research may be eligible to apply for departmental research assistance and non-clinical time through the Director of Research.
Finally, this person will serve as a primary mentor for research residents in the educational laboratories of the Department of Surgery as well as have responsibilities for the education of all research residents.
