Department Overview

The 11K Monitor Technician (MT)/ Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is part of the health care team, providing support as the telemetry technician and Health Unit Coordinator. The MT assists nursing staff through constant observation of the telemetry monitoring system. The MT constantly observes hospital-wide telemetry, including rhythm and rate identification, documentation and immediate notification to nursing staff of any changes in the patient¿s telemetry pattern. On 11K, the MTs are cross-trained and serve as HUCs.

Function/Duties of Position

 

  • The 7C/11K Monitor Technician (MT)/HUC is part of the health care team, providing support as the telemetry technician and Health Unit Coordinator.
  • You will assist nursing staff through constant observation of the telemetry monitoring system.
  • You will constantly observe hospital-wide telemetry, including:
    • Rhythm and rate identification
    • Documentation
    • Immediate notification to nursing staff of any changes in the patient’s telemetry pattern
  • On 7C/11K, the MTs are cross-trained and serve as HUCs, where they provide unit clerical support, unit communication, and other miscellaneous activities including those outlined in the HUC position description.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • ECG monitoring experience and/or previous ECG interpretation course
  • At least 75% pass rate on OHSU rhythm interpretation exam in order to be considered
    • AND (if hired) 100% pass rate on OHSU rhythm interpretation exam within 1 month of hire
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated collaboration & team work skills
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
