Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

Function/Duties of Position

This position is responsible for complex premise distribution systems, which encompass the entire OHSU campus, HMC/Tuality & Adventist and over a dozen off campus clinics as well.  This includes vertical and horizontal copper and optical fiber distribution facilities and equipment for analog and digital communications, computer, Audiovisual Systems, “DAS” Distributed Antenna Systems, alarm circuits, and sensory services. Responsible for first-level restoration of services in response to end user or system problems reported and or observed and compliance with all FCC and State electrical codes, including EIA/TIA and BICSI standards and guidelines.  Utilizes technical equipment for trouble resolution.  Technicians must be able to work with a minimum of supervision. ITG is a 24x7 work group; this position is required to be on a rotational on-call schedule.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 

Two years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing local telecommunication systems lines, stations, and equipment which included working with large telephone Private Branch Exchange (PBX), and digital data infrastructure installation; AND a current Limited Energy A or B License; AND a current valid Oregon Drivers License; OR

 

An equivalent combination of training and experience; AND a current Limited Energy A or B License; AND a current valid Oregon Drivers License

  • Incumbent shall have excellent written, spoken and listening skills.

  • Incumbent shall have knowledge of construction trade practices and drawings to ensure installation is correct and installers work is correct and in compliance with all established codes, standards, laws, and policies.

  • Incumbent shall have knowledge and understanding of the installation and maintenance standards and practices at OHSU.
  • Incumbent shall have expertise with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Incumbent shall understand the impact and consequence of error;
    • Work often has a significant impact on more than one department outside the university and hospital.
    • Errors are difficult to recognize and correct and can cause considerable harm, financial, or health loss to individuals, departments, and the University, or to other individuals and groups.

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses: 

  • Current Oregon Limited Energy A or B License

Additional Details

Incumbent is required to be on an on-call rotation.

  • The Incumbent at times will be required to work in a designated "clean area" that will require suiting up in approved clothing and/or adhering to requirements for personal hygiene safeguards, e.g., work in Sterile Processing, Bone Marrow Transplant, Operating Rooms, Animal Holding Rooms, etc.
  • Travel is required within and between buildings on the OHSU campus proper, as well as clinic and department locations apart from OHSU; includes sites outside Portland city limits.
  • Travel between buildings occurs in all weather conditions normal for the Portland area, notably frequent wet conditions. Incumbent will be required to use normal care in protecting equipment.
  • When engaged in support in an area under construction, the incumbent will be required to wear gear according to the building occupancy requirements. Employer will provide special equipment as required by AFSCME contract.
  • Most work occurs in areas with normal noise levels, with the occasional exception of possible unusual noise levels in an area under construction.
  • Changes to work schedules may include mandatory overtime with little notice due to circumstances outside ITG control, e.g., computer virus outbreak, emergency in a customer department, etc.
