Department Overview

The OHSU School of Nursing in Ashland is located on the Southern Oregon University campus, a nationally renowned liberal arts and science college located in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains. Ashland is 286 miles from Portland. This campus offers three programs: two to complete the Bachelor of Science with a Major in Nursing degree and a third to complete an Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's program (Family Nurse Practitioner).

 

The primary purpose of this position is to meet the administrative, technical, and operational learning needs of faculty and students in the Skills Lab, as part of the Skills and Clinical Learning Center on the Ashland Campus. In collaboration with the SCLC Team, this person is responsible for the setup, clean up, evaluation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and updating/upgrading of SCLC rooms, equipment, supplies, and other inventory. This person works in partnership with the SCLC Lead Coordinator, Simulation Technician, Administrative Manager, Campus Associate Dean, and OHSU/SOU ITG staff completing tasks as assigned.

Function/Duties of Position

  • In collaboration with the SCLC Coordinator, provides program delivery of on-campus Skills Labs:
    • In collaboration with the SCLC team, ensures accurate and complete Skills Lab set-up and take-down. This includes moving manikins, setting up beds, providing equipment, restocking materials and supplies, working with faculty for accuracy, etc.
    • Facilitates the maintenance of the Skills Lab, including but not limited to cleaning, laundry duties, organization of supplies, recycling of specific supplies for student reuse, maintenance of lab equipment, etc.
    • Tracks inventory and upkeep of supplies, equipment, and materials for the Skills Lab. Assists with the ordering of supplies, when appropriate.
    • Performs physical checks of inventory to ensure presence, functionality, warranty, maintenance schedules, etc.
    • Initiates and participates in performance improvement initiatives to enhance access to and experiences of skills-based learning events.
  • In collaboration with the Simulation Technician, provides technical assistance for program delivery of on-campus simulations:
    • Assists Sim Tech to ensure that each simulation has all necessary materials organized and ready before the simulation event.
    • Assists Sim Tech to ensure that costumes, wigs, and related materials are clean, functional, and available.
    • Assists in planning and organizing medication orders; creating medications, barcodes, etc.
    • Assist in the clean-up and take-down of simulations, including but limited to: recycling, laundry, organizing and restocking materials, etc.
    • Ensures that the Standardized Patient Model Green Room is organized, welcoming, and stocked.
    • Gains knowledge of simulation-related computer technology and software.
    • Initiates and participates in performance improvement initiatives to enhance access to and experiences of simulation-based learning events.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma and at least one year of college science plus one year of college math or computer courses and one year of lab aide work experience.
  • Prior experience working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage time with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to re-prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Highly developed organization and prioritization skills.
  • Highly developed relational communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in partnership with academic, unclassified management, and classified personnel daily.
  • Experience within the last two (2) years, and proficiency in, MS Suite software, e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Willingness to learn other software as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with faculty and programs within a higher education environment.
  • Experience working with faculty and staff in medical or healthcare environments.
  • Knowledge of Epic or MyChart.
