Function/Duties of Position

We have an opening for a Senior Research Associate (SRA) Neuro Oncology to interrogate the molecular and immunological underpinnings of brain cancers. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious scientist to thrive and obtain first-author publications, and grants to allow him or her to become an independent Principal Investigator in the future.  This position will utilize cutting-edge multi-omic approaches—including single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics. The role involves developing and managing animal models, organoids, and patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) of gliomas. In this position, you will work on one or more of the following projects: (i) Molecular mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies in gliomas, (ii) T cell function in brain cancer, and (iii) Immune profiling of checkpoint-mediated neurotoxicity.

 

The appointment length will be up to 36-48 months with a potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and funding.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and conducts in vitro and in vivo experiments, providing timely data analysis and interpretations.
  • Oversee laboratory vivarium colonies and perform genotyping/phenotyping of knockout mouse strains for in vivo studies.
  • Performs flow cytometry and scRNA seq for immune cell analysis from patient, clinical trial and in vivo samples.
  • Collaborate with local and national partners to manage sharing of clinical samples (tumor, blood, and CSF) and databases.
  • Train and supervise junior scientists and trainees, fostering their technical skills, and lead the research directions of the laboratory.
  • Generate preliminary data and figures for lab meetings and grant proposals.
  • Contribute to manuscript drafts for research publications.

Required Qualifications

Education & experience:

  • PhD in relevant field AND 1 year of relevant experience OR
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field AND 9 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong background in cancer biology and immunology is essential.
  • Proven track record of impactful research, evidenced by first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proficiency in in vivo and in vitro techniques and flow cytometry.
  • Experience with RNAseq, scRNAseq, ATACseq, and analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills:  both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) on Window OS. Ability to accurately type 60wpm
  • Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (Immunology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Quantitative Biology) and at least five years of relevant experience.
