Department Overview

The Mother Baby Unit provides postpartum, newborn and antepartum care to low and at-risk populations. Care is provided to mothers and their newborn infants and to antepartum patients who require periodic fetal monitoring on a typical hospital unit. The unit has 27 private beds and the rooms were recently remodeled.

$52.11- $86.81 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience.

Required Qualifications

  • External applicants: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
  • Internal applicants: Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS at time of hire, must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (NRP) from the American Association of Pediatrics at time of hire
  • 1 year postpartum experience or medical surgical experience; will consider new graduate who has had their senior capstone in a postpartum setting
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license
  • Annual/Biennial Department specific education requirements include:
  • Annual maternal competencies
  • Biennial competencies for newborn resuscitation and fetal monitoring
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

Department Specific Preferences (competencies, certifications, etc.):

  • Maternal Newborn Certification
  • Inpatient Obstetric Certification
  • Medical/Surgical Certification
  • International Board of Certified Lactation Consultation (IBCLC)
  • Prefer 1-2 year’s experience in a high risk obstetric unit, LDRP unit or medical surgical experience.

Usual Orientation Time: 

Orientation in the MBU is dependent on experience level and is tailored to individual learning. The following guidelines apply.

  • New Graduates: 8-12 weeks depending on senior practicum
  • Specialty Experience: 4-6weeks
  • Experience, but not in specialty area: 6-8 weeks
  • Resource : same as above
