Department Overview

The Bennett Lab at within the department of Molecular & Medical Genetics at OHSU explores the ways that nutrients and stress influence cellular identity and cell fate. We combine cutting-edge CRISPR-based functional genomics with metabolomic, proteomic, and machine learning approaches to understand and target vulnerabilities in neurological diseases and cancer.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Plan and carry-out experiments involving the culture of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), including patient-derived lines, and other cell types.
  • Perform large-scale genetic screens using CRISPR/Cas9 technology to identify novel therapeutic targets.
  • Perform molecular genetic and biochemical techniques including PCR, plasmid preparation, DNA, metabolite, and protein isolation from cultured cells.
  • Analyze -omics datasets, including transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
  • Document and organize experimental data, present work in lab meetings, assist in daily operation of the lab.
  • Contribute to publications, grant writing, and presentation of research at internal and external conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors in relevant field AND 1 years of relevant experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Basic laboratory skills and knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques.
  • Sterile tissue culture technique.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, and communicating data effectively.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pluripotent stem cell culture.
  • Background in biochemistry, biophysics, neuroscience or cancer biology.
  • Programming experience.
