Department Overview

The purpose of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement, and maintain technology-based services and solutions. This enables OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

Function/Duties of Position

The OHSU Finance & Operations Analytics (OFOA) Manager is responsible for BIAA staff management, providing technical oversight of OHSU financial planning & analysis system, and leading executive sponsored initiatives to improve overall OHSU financial performance through use of analytics.

  • BIAA staff management which includes responsibility for performing staff recruitment, development, retention, oversight of work products, and accountability of the team members and supporting resources. This team consists of project managers, engineers, and analysts who specifically support Revenue Cycle analytics and our budgeting/forecasting/reporting systems. 
  • Technical oversight of OHSU financial planning & analysis systems which includes principal setup, maintenance, and ongoing support of Syntellis Axiom, TM1/Rubix, Epic Charge Analysis (ECA) application, and reports/dashboards presented in SAP Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI and Epic Systems reporting tools. Primary responsibility for data integrity and accuracy is also part of this position, directly impacting business models and reporting used for executive decision making.
  • Leading executive sponsored initiatives to improve overall OHSU financial performance through use of analytics which includes architecting solutions that require seasoned senior analyst knowledge of revenue cycle processes and software, financial data expertise, and a keen ability to interface with leaders and individuals at all levels in achieving a common goal.

 

The OFOA Manager also acts as a liaison from BIAA for finance and revenue cycle-related inquiries from OHSU.  This includes: 1) collaborating with business stakeholders from OHSU Finance and executives; 2) partnering with OHSU directed staff in implementing and maintaining accurate cost accounting data and systems; 3) assigning team members to build and maintain routine and complex adhoc financial reports for HB/PB/ERC departments and other OHSU customers; 4) triaging and assigning ad hoc data projects; 5) leading optimized delivery, training, and support of financial reporting in Epic Caboodle Data Warehouse (CDW), ECA, Business Objects Webi, Power BI, and Syntellis Axiom; 6) assigning Syntellis Axiom BIAA analysts to support, maintain, and develop planning, reporting and forecasting solutions; and (7) providing analysis and guidance on implementing financial analytics solutions in support of OHSU’s Tertiary Quaternary Complex Care (TQCC) efforts.

 

This Leader will observe due care, objectivity, and respect for confidentiality. Required Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or related field. 

 

Experience: 

  • Five years management responsibility or project leadership. Or advanced technical experience with an advanced degree in a relevant field and two years of leadership experience.
  • Experience with leading teams in development and support of financial, reporting and forecasting systems such as Strata or Axiom.
  • Experience with facilitating user meetings and working sessions to identify and document data, system, and reporting requirements.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of accounting and/or financial principles
  • Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and break-even analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand format
  • Demonstrated ability to lead presentations, training, or facilitate meetings with a diverse group of participants
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse and/or planning solutions sufficient to participate in design sessions and assign team member efforts
  • Ability to read and write SQL
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills
  • Experience applying structured methodology for problem solving.
  • Experience BI systems/tools (such as Business Objects (Webi), Strata, Axiom, TM1, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses: 

  • New Manager Leadership Essentials completed within first 18 months of employment

Function is primarily performed in a work from home setting with occasional requirements to attend meetings or perform work within OHSU facilities.
