Department Overview

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery provides innovative, quality care for cosmetic and plastic surgery needs while simultaneously training surgeons to become experts in the field. Its faculty are specialists in their practice, including breast reconstruction, hand surgery, pediatric cleft and craniofacial surgery, gender affirming surgery and microsurgery. The team of plastic surgeons sponsors a six-year integrated plastic surgery residency program, a hand surgery fellowship program and, together with the Department of Urology, a gender surgery fellowship program.

Function/Duties of Position

Functions in the area of outpatient care and clinical support operations for the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery: primarily adult population. Works in partnership with the Division Head and faculty to provide excellent clinical care and customer service in the outpatient settings. Works in conjunction with the Division Head and OHSU leadership to provide services to further the University’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, and public service as well as the division’s/hospital’s goal of providing effective, efficient care. No weekend or call responsibilities.

 

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

 

This position reports to (supervisor): Faculty supervising physician – Division Head Plastic Surgery

Administrative Supervisor is Division Manager Plastic Surgery

 

The duties of this position include:

  • Outpatient Care (100%)
    • Outpatient responsibilities
      • Provide patient care in the outpatient setting and assist the attending physicians with new patient consults, pre-operative, and post-operative care. This includes but is not limited to: independently seeing patients for low complexity new patient visits, office visits, pre and post op evaluations, and being available to take all patient calls regarding questions; assisting clinic support staff with patient paperwork completion such as workers compensation claims, disability, FMLA, and adjusting patients’ follow-up appointments as needs and concerns dictate.
    • Cosmetic responsibilities
      • Provide patient care in the outpatient setting and assist the attending physicians with new cosmetic consults, pre-operative, and post-operative care. This includes but is not limited to: independently seeing patients for new cosmetic consultations for injectable products such as Botox, Juvederm, and Sculptra, performing injectable treatment, office visits, pre and post op evaluations, and being knowledgeable about our skin care product lines to recommend as applicable to patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in a surgical practice preferred, but newly graduated PAs will also be considered.  Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize; ability to be a self-starter and organized; ability to work as a team member and also independently; must possess a positive and enthusiastic attitude, an eagerness to learn the background in plastic surgery, particularly breast cancer reconstruction, gender affirming surgery, hand surgery  and cosmetic injectable treatments; possess excellent communication skills (verbal, written and active listening); and be flexible to work all day 7:30am-5pm or earlier or later as necessary for patient demand Monday through Friday. 
  • Current license and certification with the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Drug Enforcement Association certification.
  • Current license and certification with the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant, Drug Enforcement Association certification, and CPR/PALS certification required.
