Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

Function/Duties of Position

The Business Data Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, distributing and communicating data from various sources in order to meet internal and regulatory reporting requirements and to inform and support organizational decision-making. The position performs data analysis and facilitates the use of data in improving patient outcomes and high value care, identifying and sustaining improvement initiatives, and monitoring metrics that support organizational goals. The responsibilities include data abstraction, analysis, monitoring and submission as well as working with users across the organization to utilize data effectively. This position is critical to ensuring OHSU Health is a transformative, data-driven organization with an uncompromising focus on quality and outcomes.

 

In order to ensure user adoption, This will require the ability to navigate the Epic health record system, using EpicCare Ambulatory, Chart Review, Health Maintenance, Reporting Workbench, Record Viewer and other functions as necessary.    

 

These solutions will be focused in Tableau, PowerBI, and Epic Cogito Analytics.  The ideal candidate will possess a good understanding of healthcare terminology, strong SQL skills, experience navigating Epic Users web, Epic Record Viewer, Clarity Data Dictionary and Caboodle Data dictionary, as well as experience developing reports using the Epic Caboodle Data Warehouse and Epic Clarity Data model.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Business, Informatics, or related field. 

Experience:

  • Two years of healthcare experience required, including quality improvement, data analytics or performance improvement.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong SQL background
  • Strong data visualization skills in Tableau and/or Power BI
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, including Excel
  • Strong analytical skills, with knowledge of electronic medical records, and clinical data analysis.

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses:

  • EPIC Data Model Proficiency or Certification (OR ability to complete proficiency within 6 months of hire)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Three or more years of healthcare experience
  • Two or more years of healthcare data analyst experience

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with healthcare claims reporting
  • Experience with assessing quality improvement initiatives for Value Based Care programs
  • Knowledge of the Oregon Health Authority, CMS, NCQA, and other regulatory agency standards
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in production support activates, particularly with scheduling reports in SAP Business Objects

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses:

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
