Department Overview

The Oregon Hearing Research Center’s Cochlear Blood Flow Pathophysiology Laboratory is seeking a qualified individual for postdoctoral work in cochlear blood flow. Studies concerning inner ear blood flow regulation, the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie noise-induced hearing loss, and Cochlear blood flow remodeling after damage are being conducted.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Harvesting cochlear tissues, and immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, PCR and RT-PCR analysis requiring mastery of complex principles and practices.
  • Measurement of blood flow with intravital fluorescence microscopy based on lab established protocol and the measurement of auditory function with auditory brainstem response.
  • Animal husbandry to maintain mouse colonies, and genotyping of transgenic mice.
  • Administration of agents to animals.
  • Analysis and reporting of data.
  • Write scientific papers and present data at scientific conferences.
  • Additional responsibilities include the maintenance of lab operations such as placing animal orders and detailed record keeping.
  • Will help to train and supervise junior research fellows on a variety of protocols established in the Shi lab (e.g., how to isolate the whole mount of cochlear tissues, cell culture and immunohistochemistry, and real-time PCR etc). Will help to coordinate research activities both independent and collaborative projects for all lab staff.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD
  • Knowledge of animal physiology and biology
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • A few years in a laboratory setting, with previous experience with animal physiology, gene transfer, transgenic mouse husbandry, tissue dissection, cell culture and immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging, data collection, basic molecular biological methods (Western blot, PCR), and data analysis and representation of results at scientific meetings.
  • Experience with vascular biology
