Department Overview

This Finance and Accounting Analyst 1 position reports to a Financial Manager within the Finance Operations group of OHSU Finance. The purpose of the position is to provide basic professional accounting and financial services such as analysis support by maintenance of financial records and reports, collection of data relating to budget, rate of return, investment, financial and expense performance comparisons. May be responsible for routine financial and accounting processes.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Financial analysis – Independent analysis and evaluation in assigned cases of higher level of difficulty. 

  • Variance analysis – analyzes and explains budget to actual variances.
  • Budgeting/Planning – assists with preparation of annual budget.
  • Compliance – responsible for financial compliance, regulatory, tax, and other reporting to outside entities with limited complexity.

  • Financial Transactions/Reports – Applies GAAP to prepare monthly general and standard Jes and reports of minimal complexity.

  • Runs ad-hoc data queries, allocates changes to funds and accounts, reconciles accounts, analyzes account transactions, prepares reports, and maintains accounting controls. Develops policies and procedures and performs account reconciliations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. AND
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Depending upon the specific job duties, a position assigned to this classification may require the candidate to have 36 hours of accounting courses as described above, or an accounting degree, or demonstrate proficiency of accounting principles (e.g. GAAP).
  • Prior Academic Health Center or relevant financial specific experience performing analysis related to operational improvements and business cases.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Proficient with use of PC including database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proficient with spreadsheet skills, including simple functions, formulas, and formatting.  Experience with relational databases.  Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle, Financial Applications, and Microsoft Suite.

  • Available for remote work; may require occasional on-campus work.
  • This position exists within a busy, ever changing and developing department with multiple demands and changing deadlines. Must be independent, flexible, and willing to adjust/adapt.
