The Licensed Practical Nurse is a valuable member of the Occupational Health team, a section of Human Resources dedicated to the detection, prevention, evaluation, and treatment of specific job-related injuries and/or illnesses. The department also provides health education for OHSU employees and volunteers. Occupational Health’s exposure control and compliance programs are critical to keeping OHSU staff and volunteers healthy, which also protects the patients, students, and community we serve.
Key responsibilities of the job include screening for occupational risks, the placement and reading of tuberculin skin tests, phlebotomy for titers and other labs, administration of immunizations, fit testing for N-95 masks, color vision, and data entry. Other duties include rooming, maintaining clinic flow, answering phones, administrative coordination, data entry, stocking supplies, and exposure management support.
The Licensed Practical Nurse reports to the Manager of Occupational Health, functions within the LPN Scope of Practice (as defined by OHSU) and works under the clinical direction of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Medical Director. The LPN must demonstrate effective communication skills and an orientation to customer service.
Occupational Health is committed to providing exceptional service to our customers: this includes OHSU’s employees, volunteers and other departments with which we collaborate. Occupational Health works closely with Student Health & Wellness Center (Student Health), Infection Prevention and Control Program, Environmental Health & Radiation Safety and Risk Management.
