As a member of the Oncology leadership team, the manager provides strategic leadership and direction for oncology social work staff. The manager keeps abreast of trends in multi-disciplinary care, case management, and social work/mental health services as it relates specifically to medical/surgical oncology patients. Settings that this manager oversees include Hematology and Medical Oncology, the Center for Hematologic Malignancies, Radiation Oncology, inpatient oncology units, Neuro Oncology, Pediatric Survivorship Clinic and Community Hematology Oncology Clinics. The manager provides supervision to all oncology social workers and SW specialists. The manager is responsible for recruitment, hiring, orientation, and professional development of all oncology social workers and support staff.
The manager works collaboratively with healthcare professionals, local community representatives, and stakeholders to manage the operations of the Knight Cancer Institute Patient and Family Services department. The manager assures plans and services are aligned with OHSU's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The manager serves as an expert resource for OHSU staff and community leaders in the field of psychosocial oncology, as well as support to staff and may serve on interdisciplinary committees throughout the institution.
