Department Overview

The Assistant Director for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment supports the Teaching and Learning Center’s (TLC) mission to partner with all members of OHSU’s education community to create meaningful, innovative, and evidence-based learning experiences. The successful candidate will provide leadership in institutional assessment efforts, and work with educators to create more effective and equitable assessment, teaching, and learning experiences. The Assistant Director for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment will conduct training sessions and consultations that help educators understand all facets of the curriculum development and assessment processes, as well as lead and support TLC programs and initiatives around teaching and learning practices more broadly.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Provide strategic leadership in institutional assessment efforts, including collaboration with the Educational Improvement and Innovation (EII) team through initiatives such as Emagine, and active service on the Assessment Council to advance institutional goals and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to assessment review process including but not limited to planning, implementation, monitoring, training, and reporting.

  • Consult on curriculum effectiveness in terms of program goals, student learning outcomes, student satisfaction, quality assessment tools, and accreditation standards.

  • Consult with academic programs and departments to improve teaching, curriculum development and assessment practices.

  • Lead assessment of TLC resources/programs.

  • Lead and/or contribute to various TLC resources/programs as appropriate.

  • Supervise TLC Assessment and Evaluation Specialist and Administrative Coordinator.

  • Keep up to date on teaching, learning, and assessment landscapes and scholarship.

  • Attend and/or serve on and/or lead appropriate committees and councils related to program and student assessment, curriculum review, and faculty development.

  • Research and contribute to best practices and scholarship of teaching and learning through presentations, written work, and other forms.

  • Maintain appropriate records and data to produce regular performance and external reports in sharing our stories.

  • Collaborate with team members in the TLC for programming and services supporting exemplary instruction and for compiling, developing, and maintaining related resources.

  • Provide assistance to the TLC Director in fulfilling the mission and developing the capacities of the Teaching and Learning Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or related field; minimum of 5 years of related job experience.

  • Documented experience implementing current assessment practices in teaching and learning preferably in higher education;

  • Proven track record of leading institutional assessment initiatives, including developing and implementing assessment plans, frameworks, and tools.

  • Experience with regional and specialized accreditation processes and requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an equitable and inclusive faculty, staff, and student environment, and commitment to do so as a faculty member at the university.

  • Background in collaborative leadership, working with diverse teams across institutional units.

  • Experience with project management in the development of projects at various scales;

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and innovation to enhance teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated understanding of learning theories and application to pedagogical practice.

  • Demonstrated history of educational scholarship.

  • Excellent analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work effectively with

    diverse public and internal constituencies;

  • Significant experience in effectively coordinating and communicating (orally and in writing) with faculty, staff and administrators across an organization;

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, with experience using tools such as SPSS, NVivo, R, Tableau, or Power BI.

  • Familiarity with educational technologies and tools for assessment, such as LMS platforms, curriculum mapping software, or survey tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) in educational assessment, higher education, educational psychology, or a related field preferred.

  • Advanced certifications or training in assessment, evaluation, or data analysis preferred.
