Department Overview

Finance and Treasury is the department within OHSU responsible for accurately processing, reporting and interpreting financial transactions.

 

This position sits within the Finance Hub for Central Administration, which provides financial support and guidance to roughly forty departments, including Campus Safety, Facilities, Human Resources, Information Technology Group, Insurance Programs, Marketing & Communications, and Supply Chain & Logistics. 

 

This Finance and Accounting Analyst 1 performs basic professional accounting and financial processes; provides support for analysis through maintenance of financial records and reports; and collects data relating to budget, financial transactions, and expense performance comparisons.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Data Queries: Runs ad hoc data queries to analyze financial data of average complexity. Develops queries/reports for distribution to others. 
  • Variance Analysis: Analyzes and explains department and org budget-to- actual variances, including revenue, payroll, services & supply transactions. 
  • Requisitions/Purchase Orders: Assists in the procurement process by submitting requisitions, monitoring purchase orders, and clearing invoices for payment. 
  • Financial Reporting: Works with interrelated accounts within financial reporting systems to prepare weekly and monthly reports of professional quality, reconciling accounts, analyzing transactions at a complex org, department, or division levels.
  • Accounting Transactions: Applies generally accepted accounting/financial principles to prepare accounts for month-close, reviews transactions and submits correcting journal entries. 
  • Budgeting/Planning: Assists with the preparation of the annual departmental/divisional budgets. Analysts examine budget estimates and proposals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives. 
  • Compliance: Responsible for financial compliance, regulatory, tax, other reporting/filing to outside entities with limited complexity.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. AND
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Prior Academic Health Center or relevant financial specific experience performing analysis related to operational improvements and business cases.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Proficient with use of PC including database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proficient with spreadsheet skills, including simple functions, formulas, and formatting.  Experience with relational databases.  Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced or specialized finance degree preferred.
  • Prior Academic Health Center or relevant finance-specific experience performing analysis related to operational improvements.
  • At least one year of Oracle AIS experience.
  • At least one year of IBM Cognos or TM1 experience.
  • At least one year of Smartsheet experience.
  • At least one year of using related accounting or financial software.

Additional Details

This position works in a busy virtual office with frequent interruptions and interactions with people. The employee must be able to manage various streams of communication and multiple demands on their attention.
