Department Overview

OHSU's Doernbecher Children's Hospital (DCH) is a truly exciting place to work. We have 8 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms. OHSU is the only hospital in Oregon that has intraoperative hybrid operating rooms for pediatric patients that use the most advanced imaging guidance for neurosurgery and minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. A whopping 70% of our nursing staff have advanced certifications and are engaged at the top of their licenses.

 

The ANM’s decisions and actions are based on ethical principles as outlined by the American Nurses Association. The ANM practices in adherence with the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurse Administrators, the ANA Code of Ethics, the Oregon State Board Nurse Practice Act, and within the context of the Nurse Executive Competencies developed by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Function/Duties of Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) will work collaboratively with the Operating Room Nurse Manager to provide daily operational oversight and consistency to DCH Perioperative Services into the evening hours.  The primary focus of responsibility will be related to the Operating Room while providing support to PACU and Pediatric Sedation. Greater Perioperative call is shared with all team perioperative team members.

 

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a registered nurse (RN) who is responsible for upholding excellence in the provision of nursing care through the implementation of the Profession Practice Model. The ANM, in association with the Nurse Manager, is responsible for the managerial and leadership functions within a patient environment. The ANM functions primarily on evening and nightshift hours to provide operational oversight, consistency and continuity. The ANM partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards, and administrative and clinical policies and procedures.

 

The ANM performs managerial activities, and demonstrates effective leadership behaviors including performing evaluations, employee mentoring, coaching, and performance management. The ANM implements quality and safety initiatives, engages in process improvement, ensures adherence to bargaining unit agreements and human resource management. The ANM creates and sustains a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff.

Required Qualifications

  • BSN or higher degree in nursing
  • Unencumered Oregon RN License
  • BLS for healthcare provider
  • CNOR Specialty certification (within 6 months of hire)
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant clinical experience
  • Knowledge of AORN Guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Promotes positive work environment and healthy teams
  • Conflict Management
  • High EQ (ability to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and with empathy)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AORN Guidelines
  • MSN
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in perioperative leadership
  • Experience promoting process improvement activities with proven results
