Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

Function/Duties of Position

This position is responsible for complex premise distribution systems, which encompass the entire OHSU campus, HMC/Tuality & Adventist and over a dozen off campus clinics as well.  This includes vertical and horizontal copper and optical fiber distribution facilities and equipment for analog and digital communications, computer, Audiovisual Systems, “DAS” Distributed Antenna Systems, alarm circuits, and sensory services. Responsible for first-level restoration of services in response to end user or system problems reported and or observed and compliance with all FCC and State electrical codes, including EIA/TIA and BICSI standards and guidelines.  Utilizes technical equipment for trouble resolution.  Technicians must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.

 

ITG is a 24x7 work group; this position is required to be on a rotational on-call schedule.

 

This position is available to trainee applicants as well as fully-qualified applicants. We are willing to consider candidates as trainees who can qualify for this role within one year. Will consider an existing Trainee that is already enrolled within an approved State of Oregon Apprentice project. Prefer IECO (Independent Electrical Contractors - Oregon) late term.

Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • Two years of experience within the general Information Technology industry along with experience installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications systems, and equipment which includes but not limited to analog and digital communications systems along with additional network and digital data infrastructure connections
  • A current valid Driver’s License
  • It is necessary to have experience of various industry standard testing equipment used in the troubleshooting, installation, and certification of low voltage systems.

  • Incumbent shall have excellent written, spoken and listening skills.
  • Incumbent shall have excellent interpersonal skills; proven and recognized as a team player with excellent coordination and communication abilities.
  • Incumbent shall have knowledge of construction trade practices and drawings to ensure installation is correct and installers work is correct and in compliance with all established codes, standards, laws, and policies.
  • Incumbent shall have ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing and accurately completing them, a potentially stressful environment.
  • Incumbent shall have knowledge and understanding of the installation and maintenance standards and practices at OHSU.
  • Incumbent shall have expertise with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Incumbent shall understand the impact and consequence of error;
    • Work often has a significant impact on more than one department outside the university and hospital.
    • Errors are difficult to recognize and correct and can cause considerable harm, financial, or health loss to individuals, departments, and the University, or to other individuals and groups.
  • Incumbent shall exercise and demonstrate independent judgment;
    • Established procedures/policies govern many work situations
    • Regular exercise of independent judgment or initiative.
    • Problems need to be resolved by choosing solutions from among several alternatives that are not necessarily governed by established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Enrolled in an approved State of Oregon apprenticeship program
  • Four years of experience within the general Information Technology industry

Experience:

  • Current Oregon Limited Energy A or B Licenses
  • BICSI ITS certification
  • BICSI ITS Optical Fiber certification
  • Optical Fiber Testing (Fluke)
  • Systimax Certification
  • Levition Certification
  • Ortronics Certification
  • Training or experience in overhead paging system.
  • A/V knowledge and experience
  • Programming and troubleshooting experience of telephone or other specialty systems

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of technology in use at OHSU; Pinnacle Work Order and Cable Management Systems, Autodesk Design Review, Bluebeam studio’s, CommScope/Systimax, Berk-Tek/Ortronics & Berk-Tek/Levition standards, as well as basic computer skills.
  • Fluke OTDR.
  • Incumbent shall have knowledge / understanding of all standards, practices, and policies governed by OHSU.
  • Audiovisual Systems
