Department Overview

The NDA assist Neurodiagnostic technologists as needed (restocking supplies, electrode removal and disinfection etc.). Alerts supervisor and/or activate hospital systems such as rapid response, cardiac arrest, etc. per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues. NDAs will work in tandem with credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologists (R. EEG T. or CLTM) as well as the full multi-disciplinary epilepsy center team and receive general technical oversight by an END Technician 2 or above. The NDA is not eligible to analyze EEG data.

Function/Duties of Position

Patient Observation:

  • NDAs observe and monitor patients within the EMU. Continuously monitors patients undergoing vEEG recording for safety, either in room or via remote video monitoring. Alerts nursing and/or technologist staff when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur. May communicate with patients and bedside staff to obtain information about events. May document observations.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintains clean testing equipment, maintains proper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area, and reports equipment malfunctions in writing to the engineer. 

Customer Satisfaction

  • Follows OHSU’s customer service philosophy, and follows AIDET forms of communication. Works to understand and correct the most common customer service complaints. Follows customer service satisfaction scores and helps the department to achieve the highest-level scores possible by working to become a leader in customer service.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BLS required at time of hire
  • 1 year experience within the healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
  • Positions in Neurodiagnostics will require completion of LTM 100 course

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  (Competencies):

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills Demonstrated collaboration and team work skills Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • On the job training will be provided to attain basic skills in clinical seizure recognition, patient safety and how to respond to patient emergencies in the EMU, and gain knowledge of monitoring system and camera controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oregon CNA license with CNA1 (Acute Care) Certification
  • No less than 20 hours of observation in an EMU or Neurodiagnostic Lab under the direction of a credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologist (R. EEG T., or CLTM).
