Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement, and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

 

 

Function/Duties of Position

The Data Governance Consultant is a key member of the Data Governance Office (DGO). Data Governance is where people, process and technology come together to enable OHSU to leverage data as a strategic asset. As a member of the DGO, you will drive the execution of strategy to make data available, usable, and trusted.

The Data Governance Consultant will:

  • Partner with business area customers across all areas of the organization to advance OHSU’s vision for enterprise data management and analytics
  • Understand and articulate the business value of data governance to users; serve as a subject matter expert
  • Work cross functionally with a passionate team of data-driven problem solvers within the Business Intelligence division and Information Technology Group
  • Contribute to creation of data governance policies, standards, and processes, ensuring continuous improvement as the needs of the business evolve
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to work and communicate effectively with users at all levels
  • Assist with development and promotion of principles and practices within the OHSU data governance framework

The Data Governance Consultant will work on key initiatives in the following component areas:

  • Steward: Define formal roles and responsibilities for managing enterprise data to ensure it is accessible, usable, safe, and trustworthy
  • Fluency: Implement formal training that improves the ability to interpret, understand, create, and communicate about data in a meaningful way
  • Catalog: Collect, organize, and maintain documentation that clearly describes the data assets within the organization
  • Quality: Establish processes and controls to ensure data is high-quality and trusted for making decisions
  • Access: Ensure consumers have access to the appropriate data and access is updated as roles and needs change
  • Align: Implement processes to integrate data, align organizational reporting structures, and ensure data is used for intended purposes

Required Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and four years work related experience in the information technology field  or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and five years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Six years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree

 

Experience:

  • Two plus years of experience working in a Business Analyst role.
  • Experience in a customer facing role (internal or external).
  • Two or more years of experience documenting associated business processes.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand, translate, and communicate abstract concepts and ideas in a clear, concise, and easy to understand communication style.
  • Project coordination and/or leadership experience from conception, schedule, design, testing, through implementation.
  • Ability to develop detailed user requirements / specifications documentation.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems.
  • Must have demonstrated, excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person.

This position is remote, with occasional need to work from one of the Portland, OR OHSU campus locations.
