Department Overview

The Advice and Counsel Center Employee Relations Associate (ACC Associate) serves as a liaison between the Labor and Employee Relations department and internal and external customers. This position will support the organization by providing initial guidance, training and education, collaboration, and serve as a resource for a variety of Employee and Labor Relation issues. In addition, the position will serve as a liaison between the ACC and other departments within and outside of Human Resources. This position shall be responsible for support duties, including but not limited to, coordinating case assignments to the ACC Partners under guidance of the associate and senior partners, complete intake entry into case management system from calls and emails sent to the ACC, coordinate meetings for the labor and employee relations directors, supporting the department by attending meetings, as needed, and monitors expenditures against departmental budgets, prepares necessary documentation for supervisor review/approval tabulates budgetary data, calculates figures, and checks for accuracy. Finally, this position will be responsible for ensuring documentation for investigations is maintained, assists with system and case correction, confirms Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met, and follow ups are provided when the department needs additional support.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Support the ACC by assigning cases, completing intake for calls and emails, ensure SLAs are met and the ACC specialists receive support as needed.
  • Respond to reported concerns, support the investigation process, provide consultation, facilitation, and guidance on entry level employee and labor relation matters.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality in all matters.
  • Partner with other experts in HR, Labor, and Legal to ensure a legal understanding and provide the expected approach to the situation.
  • Support department coordination between the ACC and departments within and outside of Human Resources.
  • Manage and maintain cases and documentation in the employee relations system, EthicsPoint.
  • Build a collaborative relationship with the organization by providing exceptional service at all levels.
  • Apply a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to identify themes and trends, design and deliver interventions, and drive continuous improvement in organizational strategies and effectiveness of Employee Relations.
  • Support in training leadership.
  • Participate in collective bargaining at the direction of the labor relations team.
  • Participate in the support and coordination of Labor Relations activities including
  • Update the ACC and Labor Relations intranet page and manage team calendars and email boxes
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, HR or related field, and/or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training; and
  • 1 year of Human Resources experience with generalist exposure, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  •  Knowledge and experience applying federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop skills in conducting investigations, in a respectful and professional manner, while upholding an organizations policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Experience working in a unionized healthcare or education environment, is preferred.
  • Ability to support manager development and alignment through coaching, counseling, and training.
  • Willingness to learn how to guide leaders in making employee relations decisions which are in alignment with the organizations policies and procedures as well as legal obligations.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and the ability to navigate sensitive, emotional, and/or difficult situations with empathy.
  • Knowledge of investigatory best practices and ability to understand how different perspectives, experiences, and cultures affect the situation and investigation process. Ability to develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive workplace through interactions, decisions, and recommendations.
  • Effective, clear, and culturally aware communication verbally and in writing; ability to draft concise and factually accurate reports and documents.
  • Willingness to provide training to leaders.
