Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to provide and support technology and information services that enable OHSU to be a national leader in health and science innovation.

Function/Duties of Position

The work of the Business Intelligence Management Division (BIAA) ensures that the informational assets of the OHSU enterprise are leveraged to enhance financial, clinical, operational, and research decision-making.

 

Positioned at the confluence, where the business of patient care meets the need for insights and data driven decisions, this role provides the opportunity to use data analysis and development skills to improve the health and well-being of Oregonians and beyond. 

 

Under the guidance of senior team members, this position is responsible for gathering requirements and business process knowledge to transform data into analytics solutions that are geared towards the needs of a customer. The incumbent will develop, implement, and maintain a variety of business intelligence solutions for analyzing, reporting, and providing access to healthcare information to clinical data consumers.

 

The position with work closely with BIAA peers, OHSU Health leadership, clinical and operational partners, vendors, IT staff, and project managers to document scope and requirements, as well as develop, validate, test, and maintain BI solutions. This work will require leveraging existing OHSU BI assets and standard content when appropriate. New solution development will follow the OHSU software development methodology and adhere to data governance, data security, change management, and report standards.

 

Candidates must be able to excel in a collaborative environment, where open and honest communication drives innovation and process improvement. The ideal candidate will seek out opportunities to lead and lift others by offering consulting and providing technical expertise to assist clinical BI end users and fellow team members.

 

This position is also responsible for detailed technical analysis and support to assure the availability and accuracy of data contained in the BIAA supported data warehouses or accessed through BIAA supported BI systems. This will include availability for rotation through support required for operational process improvement, software upgrades, and project go lives.

Required Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and one year work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Three years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

 

Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

 

Experience: 

Within the required experience you must have:

  • One years paid work experience as Data Analyst, Data Engineer, or BI Developer (or equivalent classification).
  • One years experience with developing reports and dashboards.
  • One year experience writing SQL to query relational databases.
  • Experience with facilitating requirements gathering sessions and documenting requirements.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Within the required experience you must have:

  • One or more years of experience with SQL coding and tuning
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements
  • Exceptional customer service skills - both in person and on the phone. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills - able to resolve conflicts and to problem solve between parties. 
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present
