Department Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.


This position reports to (supervisor): Mathew Geltzeiler, MD

Function/Duties of Position

The purpose of this position is to coordinate and support the outpatient medical needs of complex skull base and head and neck cancer patients receiving care in the Otolaryngology Division of Rhinology. The position will partner with faculty physicians, fellows and residents in Otolaryngology to provide excellent clinical care and customer service for patients. This position interacts with other care providers to deliver appropriate, timely care and patient education. Patients seen in the Rhinology Otolaryngology clinic are commonly referred for disease of the sinus and skull base cancer. Common procedures performed in clinic include: nasal laryngoscopy, nasal endoscopy, sinus debridement, simple I&D, drain removal, wound care, tracheostomy management as needed. This position will actively foster and maintain systems and relationships to ensure smooth care transition from the clinic setting to the operating room and back to the clinic setting. This position will also provide educational presentations to OHSU surgery medical students, otolaryngology residents and fellows during Grand Rounds.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or Certified Nurse Practitioner.
  • BLS or ACLS certification preferred.
  • Sufficient clinic experience with the patient population and knowledge of necessary resources; Ability to prioritize work; Knowledge of OHSU clinical support systems, including EPIC and order entry; Flexible, calm, non-judgmental, professional demeanor; Ability to work independently to complete a variety of tasks simultaneously; Capacity to see what is best for the clinic and the patient rather than what is best for specific individuals; proven organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi - task;
  • Experience in otolaryngology medical office setting preferred; Will be required perform the following procedures: otomicroscopy, flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy and nasal endoscopy - previous training preferred.
