Department Overview

This position provides technical support to the Home Infusion department through packaging of patient orders,

maintenance of medical equipment, inventory management and coordination of deliveries. Home infusion employees working this shift are responsible for ensuring accountability and accuracy of standard operations procedures in home infusion pharmacy. This position requires driving of personally-owned vehicle in order to assist with transfer of medications and supplies. Position works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist who is responsible for the safe and proper distribution of medication to home infusion patients.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Packages, labels, and prepares deliveries for patients based on printed delivery tickets. Prioritizes deliveries and determines appropriate delivery method to ensure packages arrive on time. May drive vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies and/or equipment.

  • Checks to ensure the inventory of supplies and equipment is adequate to meet upcoming demands. Purchases supplies and/or equipment or authorizes purchases of supplies or equipment up to authorized limit.

  • Archives OHSU records and shreds and discards records when expiration date is passed; reviews clerical work to assure typing, especially numbers, and financial amounts, is accurate, and that records are filed and processed according to established procedures and guidelines. Tracking of patient- specific documentation required for compliance and billing. Contacting providers and patients to obtain missing documentation.

  • Clean, test, and maintain durable equipment. Coordinate retrieval of equipment from patient homes at end of therapy. Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules for all home infusion equipment. 

  • Receives incoming freight and deliveries; counts items against the invoice and checks to see that all items are in good condition;
  • Driving personal vehicle is a requirement for this job and to comply with all policies and procedures related to this activity.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience performing stores and inventory work; AND 
  • Training or experience providing knowledge of inventory control systems, and transportation agencies and shipping methods.
  • Current Driver's license and driving record that meets OHSU's driving requirements.

  • Ability to read and understand medical-related terms.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of computer software systems such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to establish priorities in workflow.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under supervision of diverse Pharmacists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of high school degree Formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Past work experience in a medical office or Pharmacy setting
  • Medical and scientific nomenclature
  • Licensed by the State of Oregon Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician

Additional Details

  • Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and noise. Flexibility in scheduling of shift times. Accountability for accuracy associated with performance of the duties to this position.
  • Ability to stand/walk, push or pull delivery carts, bending and reaching for 6-8 continuous hours per day.
  • Maintain supply movement and stock to accommodate patient needs. Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to drive a vehicle.
