Department Overview

Reporting to the director of pharmacy services, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operational

management of pharmacy services in relation to inpatient pharmacy and procedural units. Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to, employee supervision; education and training of staff; program development;

management of business and professional activities of the pharmacy; quality assessment and process

improvement; and maintenance of practice standards, customer service, compliance with accreditation

standards and applicable laws and regulations; coordination of pharmacy services with other hospital

departments, and teaching of pharmacy interns and residents, and staffing.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Operations Management: Manages the operations in inpatient pharmacy in a cost-effective manner, directing day-to-day operations (24/7), delegating responsibility and authority for providing services; redesigns and develops processes and programs for maximum safety and efficiency; primary support of automation/technology for inpatient pharmacy services; problem-solves issues identifed by staff and internal/external customers; maintains and updates policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring and coordinating pharmacy services for decentralized procedural areas that include, but not limited to: Casey Eye Institute, Procedural care unit, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Dialysis, etc.
  • Human resources (supervision of staff): Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and supervises assigned staff, develops performance standards, conducts performance appraisal; and recommends salary increases consistent with Hospital policy and procedures.

  • Leadership: Representative of pharmacy leadership as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team representing pharmacy perspectives.

  • Education: Serve as site preceptor for student interns, externs, & resident rotations.

Required Qualifications

  • Pharmacy, BS, PharmD
  • Masters or Pharmacy Residency + 2 yrs work in hospital pharmacy
  • State of Oregon Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License
  • Communication, written and verbal
  • Supervision
  • Contemporary Practice of Pharmacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS, MBA, MHA

Additional Details

The incumbent will spend a significant amount of time at a computer terminal. The position must deal with

situations on a daily basis with a high degree of intensity. In addition, within the health care setting there can

be significant lack of control over the work pace, with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by

external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress
