Department Overview

Responsible for building referrals to OHSU pediatric and women’s health service lines through effective sales

strategies that support service line business, strategy and marketing plans. Develops and implements long and

short-term sales plans in assigned territories, concentrating on building relationships through service, education and communication with referring providers. Works collaboratively with the liaison team and departments engaged in referring provider outreach and engagement, including Strategic Outreach, the Physician Advice and Referral Service (PARS), Marketing, Business Development, the Faculty Practice Plan, clinic operations and other outreach staff.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Identified targeted referral sources in assigned territories, prioritizing based on OHSU pediatric and women’s health strategic growth and retention objectives. Develops and implements long and short-term sales strategies for assigned territories that result in increased referrals to OHSU specialists and facilitates. Initiates and maintains contact with targeted referral sources, meeting or exceeding goals for sales activities, including calls and face-to- face contacts.
  • Assesses needs of targeted referring providers and serves as liaison with appropriate OHSU provider, department or service. Works collaboratively with Marketing, service lines, Physician Advice and Referral Service (PARS), CME office, faculty and others to develop and deliver appropriate materials, educational events and tools to enhance referral process. Activates select practices on OHSU Connect. Provides support to Strategic Outreach office in coordination and facilitation of collaborative initiatives as requested. Providers referral data and other metrics to assist in targeting and ROI analyses.
  • Maintains accurate contact management database. Ensures addition of new providers and timely update of sales activities. Works with business data analyst to develop target list and track results of sales efforts as well as provide regular reports on sales activities, referral results and issue resolutions. Maintains departmental budget. Demonstrates professionalism and excellent customer service skills at all times.

  • Contributes current and relevant market intelligence to leadership for action or informational purposes, including physicians entering or leaving region, practice expansion opportunities, competitor activities and initiatives, etc.

  • Maintains a depth and scope of knowledge regarding OHSU’s strategies, services and staff expertise that allows for accurate and appropriate communication with referral sources.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Healthcare or a related field
  • A valid driver’s license is required

Experience:

  • Two or more years of business development, marketing, management and/or project management experience in healthcare or other service industry.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or Healthcare related field

Experience:

  • Five to seven years of experience of business development, marketing, management and/or project management experience in healthcare or other service industry

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Experience in physician relations 
  • Knowledge of Oregon healthcare providers
  • Knowledge of Salesforce database

Additional Details

Position requires travel by car and plane throughout the state of Oregon and United States region. Overnight travel is occasionally required.
