The nurses of the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) provide patient and family centered care to the patient populations of neurosurgery, neuro-medical and stroke including: subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebrovascular aneurysms, microvascular decompression, cerebrovascular thrombosis, intraparenychmal, hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, tumor resection, mysathenic crisis, aneurysm clipping, coiling, and stents. We receive patients in referral from Oregon, Washington, Northern California, with outliers from as far as Idaho and Montana. As a critical care unit, the nurse to patient ratio is either 1:1 or 1:2 due to the acuity of the patient population. In addition to being the first dedicated Neuroscience ICU in the state of Oregon, we are also nationally certified as an Comprehensive Stroke Center. Our nurses work in collaboration with a neurointensivist team which provides 24/7 coverage for our patient population.
