Department Overview

OHSU is Oregon’s only public academic health center. We are a system of hospitals and clinics across Oregon and southwest Washington. Reporting to the Senior Director of Diagnostic Imaging Services and working in close collaboration with the Chair of Radiology, the Assistant Director plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing the clinical operations and strategic direction of Radiology services. This position is responsible for managing a broad and complex portfolio of imaging modalities and off-site imaging operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Function/Duties of Position

LEADERSHIP AND PLANNING: Provides daily operations management and assists with development of both short- and long-term strategic planning for department and supervisor team:

  • Assist in the development of pro forma and modality strategic plans that support Healthcare and departmental mission and growth.
  • Develop and lead teams and processes to standardize, evaluate equipment and solutions that assist with reaching goals and service to all patients and providers.
  • Participate and lead integration efforts to improve department synergies inclusive of OHSU Partners.
  • Serve as project lead for key growth projects and initiatives. Develop project teams and utilize project tools to ensure success.
  • Provide solutions and standards to assist in the operational management of department service and staff:
    • Analyze operation and develop staffing models that meet service, budget and productivity targets.
    • Staff scheduling, workflow oversight and enhancement, rounding, and meeting participation.
  • Conduct or co-facilitate staff meetings 
  • Coordinate coverage for vacations, appointments, and any other outages during on duty and off duty hours;
  • Ensure compliance with hospital and university regulatory and safety requirements
  • Ensure compliance with staff credentials including licensure, registration and mandatory education.
  • Foster the OHSU Lean principles of OPEX with participation of daily department and appropriate inter-department huddles to ensure continuous improvement of daily work

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Involvement in design and construction projects within the Imaging department including equipment replacement projects as well as new expansion projects. 
  • Radiant System Manager Technical support functions, change management and workflow optimization.
  • Lead key projects and initiatives that focus on performance and service improvement. Assist project team in understanding tools and processes as part of effort.
  • Develop successful project plans inclusive of timelines, responsibilities and implementation. Lead, participate and support projects and initiatives as assigned by Department Director or Hospital Leadership.
  • Lead and assign participation on collaborative teams in support of project development; project timelines; phase implementation and follow up.
  • Lead project teams by example with professionalism in communication skills, personal appearance, and conduct that emphasizes results and meets project goals.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Perform and provide HR Management functions that lead and support various

  • Develop and support staff engagement,assessment and development of staff training plans.
  • Provide effective and meaningful verbal and written communication to all direct staff and key stake holders.
  • Lead effective conflict management and resolution.
  • Develop collaborative working relationship with AFSCME representatives. Responsible for understanding and execution of AFSCME Collective Bargaining Unit Contract to ensure department support and complaince.
  • Perform coaching, counseling and conflict resolution. Conduct investigatory meetings and support supervisors and staff to ensure a fair and equitable process.
  • Lead and participate in corrective action related to work performance concerns as appropriate; Work with HR Business Partner in response participation in investigational meetings and/or grievance process.
  • Develop long term succession plans and staff development.
  • Develop and provide supervisor and employee evaluations. Ensure staff peer review.
  • Develop and complete competency assessment and edits to standard work. Ensure compliance related to completion of employee annual requirements
  • Development of department specific Policy/procedure through MCN

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years’ experience (5 years demonstrated progressive Imaging leadership) 
  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program that meets current qualifications for American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-RT) board examination(s) or Imaging sciences equivalent.
  • ARRT Registered/OBMI license in Radiography 
  • CRA (Certification in Radiology Administration) by AHRA (American Healthcare Radiology Administrators) or obtain certification within one year of hire date.

Experience:

  • Five years of of Imaging Services progressive management and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing two or more Imaging modalities.
  • Min 5 years of professional experience as registered Imaging Technologist (RT, CT, MR, US, etc). 
  • Working leadership and technical experience in Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center/Academic Medical Center

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dual certification or registry in multiple Imaging Modalities (X-ray, US, MRI, Mammography, CT, IR, NMMI, etc.)
  • Epic Radiant Certification

Additional Details

Full-time position, with flexible work schedule and extended hours as required. This position works in a busy environment with many interruptions, multiple demands and people interactions. It requires being exposed to noise, radiation, and human tissue/fluids. Must be able to be an On-Call Administrator on Duty rotation after hours and weekends as needed or scheduled. Schedule assignment rotation up to 6 -7 weeks per year (if needed).
