Department Overview

The Brody lab is part of the Brenden-Colson Center for Pancreatic Care, which consists of multiple labs from various specialties and backgrounds committed to studying pancreatic cancer with the common goal of improving treatment for patients. The Brody lab works closely with the Dept. of Surgery and the Knight Cancer Institute at OHSU; it is a medium-sized, very active and highly collaborative lab focused on merging advanced molecular biology techniques, human and genetically engineered models, and translational medicine applications in order to tackle this fortuitous disease.

For this position, we are looking for an exceptional candidate who will contribute to ongoing research examining how several genes and molecular entities promote the onset, development, and survival of pancreatic cancer tumors. We are particularly interested in using new tools to interrogate the RNA-binding protein HuR (Human antigen R) and its regulation of critical pathways and molecules for cancer cell survival and proliferation.

The Brody lab routinely utilizes molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, mammalian tissue culture, small animal (mouse) models, imaging, and next generation –omics techniques (i.e. RNA-seq). The ideal candidate is expected to be proficient or willing to become proficient in these techniques, and to contribute their own independent ideas and skills to the growth of the lab. Applicants will need to possess strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently, taking advantage of excellent facilities and scientific environment.
