Department Overview

Peer Tutors work under department supervision to support fellow students in mastering a specific subject or skill area at the undergraduate or graduate level. Primary focus is on reinforcing course concepts, rather than delivering new course content. May provide one-on-one or group tutoring, develop supplemental learning materials, and refer students to additional resources as needed. 

Function/Duties of Position

  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in specific subject areas.
  • Assist students in understanding course material, with the goal of improving academic performance.
  • Prepare and organize tutoring materials, practice problems, or review guides.
  • Track and report student progress to supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student academic records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Participate in tutor training sessions and ongoing professional development.
  • Refer students to other academic or campus resources when appropriate.
  • Adhere to established tutoring schedules and maintain punctuality and professionalism

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in (check one)
    • Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours), OR
    • Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours)
  • Must have completed the relevant course or equivalent with a grade of B or higher (as applicable).
  • Instructor or department approval required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior tutoring, teaching, or instructional support experience
