Function as a member of the surgical team, while under the direct supervision and direction of the registered perioperative nurse. The PPA will provide assistance with cleaning and preparing operating rooms, retrieving and cleaning equipment, retrieving and stocking supplies and related items; supports the environment of the unit or service; supports patient care through assistance with prepping and opening supplies before surgery. Continuous engagement with the surgical team. Must remain immediately available in or just outside the OR suite at all times.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), may include specialized vocational courses.
One year work experience in any field.
Ability to communicate well with others.
Ability to safely lift and transfer patients, equipment, supplies.
Must be responsible and properly trained in the transportation of bio-hazardous items within 90 days of hire.
A PPA candidate may be required to have a valid BLS certification at time of hire as indicated on the position description.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong customer service orientation.
Cooperation with and maintenance of good rapport with nursing staff, ancillary personnel, other departments, patients, and physicians.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with staff, patients, and visitors.
Basic computer skills may be required.

Work schedule will need to align with department needs and will required to be flexible to changing department needs. Day shift hours, 5 weekdays per week, no regular weekends. Shift start time between 0630 - 0800, 8 hour days. Potential for on-call, overtime. Ability to perform routine duties with minimal supervision. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required per policy.
